Valvan - Don´t Defend Yourself.

I am a member of various groups on Facebook, which are dedicated to HWN. I like the punk energy of it, and I like the raw and unpolished post-apocalyptic energy behind it. I was getting fed up with the idea that extreme music HAD to be aggressive. You see it in industrial music (Almost), harsh noise, black and death metal, punk rock exc exc.. The only kind of extreme music you could find without a fast chaotic attitude was within the art venues for the elite .. And off course...certain types of satanic black ambient and the works of a certain Boyd Rice, but that´s another story!.

Valvan is a HNW act, with (As I can hear) certain elements of ANW? (Ambient noise wall). Valvan has not been documenting his activities on Discogs, which of course makes it hard for reviewers like me to get a clear picture of how productive this act this. Only one thing I can say is that so far he has released over 80 releases on his Bandcamp!. Most of them serve as mini albums with just 1 track (being about 20-30 minutes long), while longer albums with more tracks can also be found. And you will have to excuse me, while information on this act is also .. limited. Let´s just stick to this  Don´t Defend Yourself 30 min. mini album/ep-whatever.

The first thing you´ll notice is a crackling and almost hypnotic sensation of heavy bass. Next thing you´ll notice, is the smell of wood being cracked open!... Afterward, comes the sound of wood being slowly splintered in almost in a microscopic sense. I can still smell the wood being splintered, and the earth opening beneath it!. And that´s it, I am not going into a DEEP review of this because there is no need for it. It´s good. It´s awesome brutal sounds with a soothing hypnotic subsonic ambient-bass approach. If you wanna find a hidden messages in it, go for it! ..  Tons of ways to enjoy this recording, recommendable!!.. Keeping my fingers crossed for some physical releases!

Naughty / The Rita - split

There´s a new review treat on the HNW nylon fetish sound, this time it´s with one the pioneers of the genre (Rita) and a newer act called Naughty. The cover itself is absolutely beautiful, a purple/pink cassette all wrapped up in a nylon stocking with a knot so hard to unbind! (I hard to use a bloody scissor!). All this is inside a folded A5 paper (with a plastic cover) with info inside.

Side A of the tape starts off with Rita, harsh chunky and pulsating floods of distorted bass-driven noise hypnotic wall surround the listener. Feels like getting all wrapped up in a steel blanket of pure sound. At times small reminders of something "hidden" behind this wall shows it faces from time to time, again it might be the hypnotic elements working its way into my mind. At other times random acts of minimal distorted sounds jump in and out, but still, the recording maintains it´s static power. This is the second release I have bought/heard with Rita, and it still rocks my mind.

Side B with Naughty works it´s way in a lot more ambient noise wall approach. A lot thicker and woolen in sound, with notes of a cellar-like-reverb in the background of the recording.
